Don’t Keep Your Old Mattresses Forever

Getting a good night’s sleep is vital to your health. One of the key elements in a restful sleep is a good mattress. Unfortunately, mattresses do not last forever. There will come a time when you will need to part with your old bedding and buy new. But how do you know when the time is right?

The easiest way to tell if the mattress you are sleeping on is not right for you is to examine how you feel when you wake up in the morning. Do you have low back pain that goes away after about 15 to 30 minutes of stretching out your muscles? If so, then your mattress is no longer giving you the support you need.

The reason why your mattress is no longer right for you is twofold. First of all, mattresses can break down over time and with use. You cannot expect something that is used every single day to last forever. Secondly, our bodies change as we age. We may gain weight, develop arthritis, or suffer from injuries. The normal aging process plays havoc on our bodies so it is only logical to assume areas of the body that did not hurt us twenty years ago are going to hurt now.

When you are looking for new mattresses, you may want to consider beds and memory foam mattresses. These mattresses are great for those who are having pain with their old mattress. The memory foam can mold to the body while you are asleep and reduce the pain from pressure points. This is especially great news if you suffer from arthritis or have a history of back problems.

The right mattress for you will make you feel as if you are floating on air. You should feel no pain on any part of your body. The best way to choose from the many beds and memory foam mattresses is to lie on them for a while to try them out.  Some experts suggest that you bring your own pillow to replicate your normal sleeping habits. Make sure you lie on the side you normally sleep on for awhile. This will let you know if the bed is right for you.

The best mattresses will support your body in a neutral position. It should allow for your spine to maintain a nice curve while keeping your buttocks, shoulders and heels in proper alignment. A mattress that is too soft will not give this support. If it is too hard it will push your body out of alignment.

So if you are experiencing pain when you wake up in the morning it could be time to start shopping for mattresses. Remember beds and memory foam mattresses could be a great alternative to your old traditional mattress.
